LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team defeated the Seattle U Redhawks 6-1 on Friday at the NMSU Tennis Courts for its second Western Athletic Conference win of the season.  
 
The Vaqueros (4-16, 2-3 WAC) opened up play with a sweep of doubles to take the early 1-0 lead. The team of freshman Lea Karren and redshirt freshman and Harlingen South alum Valeria Montero kicked off play with a 6-3 win over Peggy Rooke and Michelle Bader at the No. 2 spot. 
 
Freshman Isabelle Bahr and redshirt sophomore Katarina Sasaroga picked up a 6-4 victory over Hannah Gianan and Jillian Rasmussen at the No. 1 spot to clinch the point for the Vaqueros. 
 
The duo of redshirt sophomores Ana Platisa and Sandra Putz put the finishing touches on the scoring in doubles with a 7-6 win over Hannah Grossman and Martina Asciuto at the No. 3 spot. 
 
In singles, Sasaroga extended UTRGV's lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Alisa Sabotic at the No. 2 spot. Karren then made it 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rooke at the No. 3 spot. 
 
Putz clinched the win for the Vaqueros after defeating Rasmussen at the No. 6 spot with a score of 6-1, 6-3. 
 
Bahr followed with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Gianan at the No. 1 spot to make it 5-1 Vaqueros. Redshirt freshman Kristyna Mamicova closed out the scoring with a three-set win over Grossman at the No. 4 spot. Mamicova opened with a 6-3 win in the first set before falling 6-7 in the second. Mamicova dominated the tiebreaker to win 10-5 to close out the match. 
 
The Redhawks (0-13, 0-5 WAC) got their lone point at the No. 5 singles spot. 
 
The Vaqueros close out the regular season on Saturday against Dixie State at 10 a.m. at the NMSU Tennis Courts.
