MIAMI, Fla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's soccer team battled against the No. 13 Florida International University (FIU) Panthers but fell 4-2 on Sunday at FIU Soccer Stadium.
The Vaqueros (3-3) fell behind by a couple of goals in the first half as David Garcia gave the Panthers (4-0-1) the 1-0 lead in the 10
th minute before Bernardo Dos Santos scored his second goal of the season in the 25
th minute.
Junior
Michael Washington scored his first goal of the season in the 57
th minute to get the Vaqueros on the board cutting the Panthers lead to 2-1.
The Panthers got a goal from Stephen Afrifa in the 71
st minute to extend their lead to 3-1 but graduate student
Yusuf Cueceoglu answered back with his third goal of the season to get the Vaqueros within one at 3-2.
The Panthers put the match away as Dos Santos added his second goal in the 85
th minute to put the finishing touches on the scoring.

Trevor Schneider (3-3) and senior
Oliver Padilla recorded a pair of saves each while FIU's goalie Grant Makela also made two saves.
FIU outshot UTRGV 23 to 5 and 8 to 4 on goal.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on September 25 when they visit Chicago State for the Western Athletic Conference opener at 12 p.m.
