RIO GRANDE VALLEY – Junior Emily Zapata of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team became the program leader in career goals scored in a 3-0 victory over the Our Lady of the Lake Saints on Wednesday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. 
 
Zapata scored a pair of goals to give her 29 career goals as she surpassed Sarah Bonney (2016-19) for the program record. 
 
Zapata gave the Vaqueros (4-4-1) the lead in the 22^nd minute as she took the pass from junior Anna Barkey and snuck past Saints (3-3) goalie Samantha Valadez for the 1-0 advantage. 
 
In the second half, graduate student Victory Mayo added to UTRGV's lead as she connected with junior Ana Recarte-Pacheco and found the back of the net in the 83^rd minute. 
 
Zapata put the finished touches in the scoring with her second goal of the match in the 86^th minute as sophomore Anna Torslov got the assist. 
 
Freshman Macie Blohowiak (2-1) made four saves for her second shutout of her career. 
 
Valadez finished with one save. 
 
The Saints outshot the Vaqueros 11 to 9 with both teams posting four shots on goal.  
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Sunday, September 19, when they hit the road to face Kansas State at 1 p.m. at Buser Family Park.
