RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team beat the Texas Southern Tigers 2-0 on Friday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.

Anna Barkey scored the game-winning goal in the 49
th minute off a feed from sophomore
Elina Seppälä. It was Barkey's second goal of the season, both of which have been game-winners.

Victoria Mayo added a goal off a free kick as she fired from left sideline over the outstretched arms of the leaping
Alexis Espino (0-1-0) to make the score 2-0.

Maile Lunardi (2-1-0) recorded her second-straight shutout, the ninth of her career, by making one save.
The Vaqueros (2-2-0) outshot the Tigers (0-3-0) 17-6, including 10-1 on goal.
This was the first match back for Tigers head coach
Lindsay Vera, the first assistant coach in program history, who worked with UTRGV head coach
Glad Bugariu from 2014-17.
UTRGV is back in action on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union. UTRGV leads the showdown 3-0.
