LUBBOCK – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team fell 0-7 to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who are receiving votes in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, on Thursday at McLeod Tennis Center.
Texas Tech (2-0) jumped out to the early lead as they won at the No. 1 and 2 doubles spots to clinch the point. UTRGV's duo of juniors
Te Kani Williams and
Chris Lawrance were leading 6-5 in their match at the No. 3 spot before it was stopped once the point was clinched.
In singles, UTRGV (0-2) fell at the No. 1, 2, and 6 spots as Texas Tech clinched the win and then added wins in the final three spots to complete the sweep.
Junior
George Hutchings hung in tough against Olle Wallin at the No. 3 spot as he found himself up 3-0 in first set. Wallin grabbed the lead later inthe first set before Hutchings tied it at 5-5 but ended up falling 5-7. Hutchings fell 2-6 to close out his match.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 29, when they visit Rice at 10 a.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
