RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field program announced its indoor and outdoor schedules for the 2023 seasons on Wednesday.
UTRGV's indoor season starts Jan. 20 at Houston's Robert Platt Invitational. The Vaqueros will visit Lubbock twice during the indoor season. First, they'll take on the Texas Tech Open & Multis Jan. 26-28, then they'll return to Texas Tech for the Jarvis Scott Open scheduled for Feb. 10-11.
The 2023 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Indoor Championships will be held Feb. 24-25 at The Podium in Spokane, Wash. The NCAA Indoor Championships will take place March 10-11 at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. for qualifying student-athletes.
UTRGV's outdoor track & field season features six meets prior to championship season and begins March 17-18 at the UTSA Invitational. The Vaqueros will compete in two other meets in March, heading to Rice for the Victor Lopez Classic March 23-25 and to San Marcos for the Bobcat Invitational scheduled for March 30-April 1.
UTRGV has three meets scheduled for April. The Vaqueros will take on Texas A&M-Kingsville's 15
th Annual Cactus Cup on April 15. They'll compete in Waco April 21-22 at Baylor's Michael Johnson Invitational, then head to Austin for a final tune-up before the conference meet at the Texas Invitational on April 29.
The 2023 WAC Outdoor Championships are slated for May 11-13 and will be hosted at Stephen F. Austin's Homer Bryce Stadium in Nacogdoches.
Qualifying student-athletes will compete in the NCAA West Preliminary May 24-27 at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif. and try to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships scheduled for June 7-10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field in Austin.

Shareese Hicks said. "We wanted to put together a schedule that reflects what our young people are capable of. We have created a well-balanced program with talent in every event group. Each event group will benefit greatly from both the venues and the magnitude of teams they will face in the coming season. We cannot wait to show the world what we have been developing here at UTRGV."
