STEPHENVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) Miners on Saturday at Tarleton's Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts. 
 
UTRGV (10-6, 2-0 WAC Southwest Div.) fell behind 0-1 after UTEP (6-9) claimed the doubles point. The Miners got singles wins at No. 6 and at No. 5 to open their lead to 3-0. 
 
Freshman Marjorie Souza played in the top flight for the Vaqueros and earned a solid 6-3, 6-0 win. But UTEP secured the team victory with a win at No. 3. 
 
Sophomore Stefanie Wilske moved into the No. 4 flight for the match and notched another impressive win – her fifth in a row. She was trailing 0-3 and 2-5 in the opening set of her match, then closed the frame strong to win it 7-5. Wilske found herself trailing 0-3 again in the second, but she bounced back and clinched her victory 6-4. 
 
Sophomore Isabelle Bahr won the opening set of her No. 2 match 6-4, then UTEP's Carlotta Mencaglia won the second 6-4. The third set was played as a 10-point tiebreaker since the match victory was already clinched by the Miners. Bahr battled, but Mencaglia took the win 1-0 (10-5). 
 
UTRGV will travel to Lubbock for a 5 p.m. Sunday match at Texas Tech.
