AUSTIN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros track & field team opened the outdoor season with student-athletes setting 10 personal records at the Longhorn Invitational at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Saturday. 
 
Sophomore Michael Campbell entered the program record book twice to open his season on a phenomenal note. Campbell took second in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.92 meters, good for fifth-best in program history and a new outdoor PR. He placed third in the discus, setting a PR and taking the No. 3 spot in program history with a throw of 51.54 meters. 
 
Speedy sophomore Jermarrion Stewart kept the momentum rolling from his indoor season to PR in the men's 100-meter dash in 10.53, placing sixth and tying the program's second-fastest time in the event. He finished eighth in the 200-meter dash. 
 
Sophomore Mission Veterans Memorial alum Alex Galvan recorded two personal bests, taking third in the men's 110-meter hurdles after running 15.93 and finishing the 400-meter dash in 52.44 to place seventh. Graduate student La Joya High alum Ricardo Mendoza placed fifth in the men's 400 in 50.84. 
 
In the women's 200-meter dash, junior Elizabeth Ortiz (26.01) and junior Harlingen High alum Jasmyn Tulloch (26.45) both ran personal records to finish 11^th and 12^th, respectively. Tulloch also set a PR in the 400-meter dash, running 1:01.65 to finish 10^th behind Ortiz (eighth). 
 
Redshirt sophomore Harlingen South alum Annelle Rodriguez tied her best mark of 1.51 meters in the women's high jump to finish fourth. Sophomore Lyford alum Kayleen May finished fifth in the women's javelin with a PR throw of 27.34 meters. Redshirt freshman Jaleel Scott was 11^th in the men's 100-meter dash and 12^th in the 200-meter dash. He ran a PR 22.45 in the 200. 
 
Junior Palmview alum Ricky Espinoza, sophomore Rio Grande City alum Daniella Muniz and sophomore PSJA High alum Marco Guajardo each earned second place finishes in the men's hammer throw, women's long jump and men's triple jump, respectively. 
 
UTRGV's next meet will be the South Texas Showdown presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 18.
