RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Sunday that tickets for the home baseball game against Texas, currently the #1 team in the nation, on April 26 at 6:30 p.m. sold out in less than five days.
 
UTRGV Athletics will welcome a crowd of 6,000 to UTRGV Baseball Stadium, a number which includes approximately 1,500 season ticket and mini plans, a department record. The number also includes tickets that have been set aside for current UTRGV students, who receive complimentary admission with their UTRGV student ID.
 
This game will be a program record crowd at UTRGV Baseball Stadium, shattering the previous record of 3,604 for a game against Texas State on Feb. 1, 2003. This game will also break what is believed to be the attendance record for a single game of 4,900 set in 1976 for a game against Arizona at Jody Ramsey Stadium. The largest known crowd on a single date is 7,600, set during a doubleheader against Texas A&M in 1975 at Jody Ramsey Stadium.
 
This will also be the largest known crowd to see a game between UTRGV and Texas since 1999, surpassing the crowd of 5,828 from a game in Austin in 2012. 
 
This is the first time Texas has visited the Rio Grande Valley since a 1971 series during which legacy institution Pan American University took three out of four. Pan American later swept Texas in the NCAA District Championships to secure a berth in the College World Series.
 
This is the fifth year in a row that UTRGV is hosting a Big 12 opponent after taking two out of three from Baylor to start the 2021 season, splitting a four-game series with Kansas State to open the 2020 season, taking one out of three from No. 16 Oklahoma State to open 2019, and hosting Texas Tech in 2018.
 
"We have seen a tremendous response for this game and all I can do now is say thank you to our fans," UTRGV Vice President and Director of Athletics Chasse Conque said. "We are going to have an unparalleled atmosphere for this game, and we've already had amazing game day experiences while averaging about 1,500 fans per game over our first five home dates.
