ABILENE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros baseball team dropped the first game of a doubleheader to the Abilene Christian University Wildcats 12-2 in seven innings on Saturday at Crutcher Scott Field.
Game two, which should start at approximately 3:50 p.m., is expected to be broadcast at
WACSports.com/Watch.
The Vaqueros (22-16, 8-9 WAC) scored their runs in the third on a two-run home run by graduate student
Jacob Hirsh.
The Wildcats (19-19, 8-9 WAC) scored nine runs in the first against junior
J.C. Ariza (1-1). Ariza started the inning by striking out
Mitchell Dickson. The next three batters reached to load the bases. After an error brought home a run,
Bryson Hill hit a grand slam. The next batter popped out, but
Brett Hammit hit a solo shot, then after the next two batters reached,
Grayson Tatrow hit a three-run home run to make the score 9-0.
In the third, with the score 9-2, the Wildcats put two runners on with two outs to set-up RBI-singles by
Tanner Tweedtand
Miller Ladusau as well as a run-scoring balk to make the score 12-2.
Senior
Tyler Kisner pitched a season-high 4.2 innings of relief, striking out a season-high four.
Genner Cervantes (3-3) went the first 6.0 innings for the Wildcats, striking out seven while allowing five hits and one walk.
