RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis head coach Nathan Robinson announced on Monday the addition of Ivo Isqueiro to the roster for the 2023 spring season. 
 
"Super excited to get Ivo in here. Big, strong kid, a lefty with lots of power and a free-flowing game. He really enjoys the sport and is super, super excited to be a part of this team," Robinson said. "He's a young kid, but he's absorbing everything and loving every second of being around our team. We're excited to get him out on the court and see how he adds to our program, adds to our depth and continues to grow. He's just chomping at the bit to get going." 
 
Isqueiro, a freshman, joins the program from Olhão, Algarve, Portugal. He previously played club tennis for The Campus in Portugal and for Sek International Sports Academy in Madrid, Spain. 
 
Isqueiro rose to the No. 1 ranking in Portugal and had the opportunity to represent his country in the 2018 European Summer Cup in the U-14 division. He is a seven-time International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior doubles finalist and two-time champion, and played in one ITF junior singles final. 
 
Jumping right into the thick of spring competition without having a fall semester to adjust to collegiate tennis will be a bit of a challenge for Isqueiro, but Robinson believes the freshman is ready to meet that challenge head-on. The experienced Vaqueros student-athletes will help Isqueiro transition quickly as he aims to make an immediate impact for the team.
