OREM, Utah – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's soccer team fell 4-0 to the Utah Valley University Wolverines in their final road match of the season on Saturday at Clyde Field.
The Vaqueros (4-9-1, 1-5-1 WAC) and the Wolverines (3-6-5, 2-2-2 WAC) put pressure on each other early in the match as both teams put had looks at the goal, but it was the Wolverines that found the back of the net first. Ura Miura took the pass from Trevor Walk at the top of the box and found the back of the net in the 27
th minute for the 1-0 lead.
The Vaqueros had a good look at the end of the first half as senior
Oneeko Allen took a shot on goal, but Wolverines goalkeeper Parker Allen made a diving stop to keep the score the same to end the half.
UTRGV came out with urgence in the second half and pressed in the early minutes, but it was Utah Valley that countered and added a goal in the 48
th minute as Owen Knecht found the back of the net making it 2-0.
The Vaqueros controlled the ball most of the second half as they got good looks in front of the goal but the Wolverines countered yet again as Walk went one-on-one with UTRGV goalkeeper
Alexis Gonzalez and found the back of the net in the 71
st minute making it 3-0.
Utah Valley added a goal in the 90
th minute from Omar Yehya to close out the scoring.
The Vaqueros outshot the Wolverines 17 to 16 but were outshot on goal 6 to 2.
Gonzalez finished the night with three saves while Allen finished with two saves.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 26, when they host San Jose State in their regular season finale at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
