RIO GRANDE VALLEY – There are at least 9 players who previously played for The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team that currently play or will play professional basketball in 2023-24. Here is an update on how some of them are doing, courtesy of Eurobasket:
 
Former UTRGV players that are currently playing professional basketball:
 
Shaquille Hines (2012-16) led Bambitious Nara in scoring with 27 points and added 13 rebounds and three assists in their 86-70 win against Shizuoka in the Japanese B2 League. Hines is averaging a team-best 17.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 13 games.
 
Lesley Varner II (2016-20) had 17 points, five rebounds, and three steals in SK Slavia Praha's loss to Sokol Pisek in the Czech Republic NBL. Varner is averaging 20.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.9 steals through 12 games.
 
Luis Valera (2008-10) had 17 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in Guadalajara's 28-point win over Real Canoe in Group B-A of the Spanish EBA. Valera is averaging 15.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists through seven games.
 
Paul Stoll (2006-08) led Fuerza Regia with a game-high six assists in their 88-85 victory over Halcones UV Xalapa in game five of the quarterfinals to take the series 4-1 and advance to the Mexican LNBP Semifinals. Stoll is averaging 7.1 points, 4.7 assists, and 1.7 rebounds through 23 games.
 
Javon Levi (2017-21) scored 10 points with five assists, three rebounds, and a team-high three steals in KK Dubrovnik's 84-77 loss to KK Cibona in the Croatian Premijer Liga. Levi is averaging 12.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 3.4 steals in seven games.
 
Janari Joesaar (2014-15) scored nine points with five rebounds, and one steal in Anwil Wloclawek's 93-72 victory over the Caledonia Gladiators in game five of the FIBA Europe Cup Group Stage. Joesaar is averaging 7.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in five FIBA Europe Cup games.
 
Other former UTRGV players who are playing professional basketball:
Terry Winn III (2017-19) is averaging 14.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steal through three games for Antranik in the Lebanese LBL.
Jordan Jackson (2017-20) plays for the Boston Celtics' NBA G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.
Johnny Crnogorac (2017-19) played for Sydney City Comets in Australian NBL One during the 2023 season. Crnogorac averaged 11.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.6 blocks in 20 games played last season.
