RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team announced on Friday that they will open their spring season when they host the Los Vaqueros Intercollegiate from Feb. 5-7 at Playa Paraiso Golf Club in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
 
Additionally, the Vaqueros will host a second tournament in the spring when they host The Big Texan from Mar. 25-26 at Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, marking the eighth time in the last nine years the Vaqueros will host The Big Texan.
 
The spring season will feature four other tournaments leading to the Western Athletic Conference Championship, which is being held from April 27-39 at The Golf Club at Chaparral Pines Golf Club in Payson, Arizona.
 
"To start off our spring season at a place like Playa Paraiso is very exciting," UTRGV head coach Houston Moore said. "We are looking forward to it. When we travel out to different venues is always good. It helps us adapt and gives us that awareness we need when we go to different places. We will play at some great venues this spring with lots of great competition. I am excited to see what we can do."
 
Following the Los Vaqueros Intercollegiate, the Vaqueros will compete at the Bentwater Invitational, hosted by Rice University, from Feb. 12-13 at Bentwater Country Club. 
 
The Vaqueros will then compete at the Sea Palms Invitational, hosted by Western Carolina University, from Mar. 7-9 at the Sea Palms Golf Resort and then will compete at the All-American Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Houston, from Mar. 18-19 at the Golf Club of Houston.
 
After the Vaqueros host The Big Texan, they will then tee it up at the UNC Spring Invite, hosted by the University of Northern Colorado, from Apr. 15-16 at Raindance National Resort before heading to the WAC Championship.
 
This season, the NCAA Regional Championships will take place May 13-15 at regional sites while the NCAA Championship will be held from May 24-29 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
