RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Wednesday that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis junior Emilien Burnel has been selected as the TicketSmarter WAC Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week. 
 
Burnel won his only match of the week over Incarnate Word's Pietro Perego in the No. 1 flight. He dominated the first set, then held off Perego's comeback attempt in the second to secure the 6-0, 7-5 victory. Burnel also teamed with sophomore Karlo Krolo to capture a great 7-6 (8:6) win in a tremendous No. 1 doubles match.
 
Burnel leads UTRGV with a 5-5 singles record and four wins in the No. 1 flight. This is his second singles honor of the spring season and fifth WAC recognition in the 2022-23 season. 
 
Burnel and the Vaqueros (3-7) host Prairie View A&M at 12 p.m. on Friday at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
