Men's Golf Set to Compete at 2023 All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is set to compete at the 2023 All-American Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Houston and Rice, starting on Monday at the Golf Club of Houston.
 
The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday with play starting at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
 
The Golf Club of Houston plays 7,425 yards and is a par 72.
 
The Competition
There will be a 21-team field that will feature UTRGV, Rice, Houston, Tennessee, Kansas State, Mississippi, Louisville, LSU, Abilene Christian, Arkansas State, Charleston Southern, Georgia State, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Sam Houston, Southern Miss, Texas State, Louisiana Monroe, and UTSA.
 
Starting Five *competing as an individual
 
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros finished in 11th place at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational with a three-round score of 882 after posting rounds of 296, 292, and 294. 
 
Javier Neira Garcia finished tied for 10th with a three-round score of 211. Garcia opened with a 67 in the first round before posting rounds of 73 and 71. 
 
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 17th with a three-round score of 214 after turning rounds of 70, 69, and 75. Taj Sutherland turned in a three-round score of 228 to finish tied for 63rd after rounds of 79, 75, and 74. 
 
Leonardo Novella finished in 66th with a three-round score of 229 with rounds of 80, 75, and 74. Carlos Roldos finished tied for 72nd with a three-round score of 233 after rounds of 82, 76, and 75. 
 
Last Year at All-American Intercollegiate
The Vaqueros didn't compete in last year's All-American Intercollegiate.
 
Florida State won the team title with a two-round score seven under 569 after rounds of 296 and 273. Florida State was the only team under-par. Houston and North Texas finished tied for second with two-round scores of 586. 
 
Sam Houston's Bret Gray and Florida State's Frederik Kjettrup tied for first in the individual standings. Gray and Kjettrup finished with a two-round score of three-under 141.
