RIO GRANDE VALLEY – For the second week in a row, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis junior
Emilien Burnel and sophomore
Borna Devald were named the TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men's Tennis Doubles Players of the Week on Wednesday.
The Burnel/Devald duo won its only match last week, dominating the No. 1 doubles bout against UC Irvine's top duo of
Brandon Park/Noah Zamora to capture a 6-0 win and aid the Vaqueros' doubles point in the match.
Burnel/Devald went 3-0 in the No. 1 flight during UTRGV's California road trip and is currently riding a five-match winning streak. They were recognized as last week's doubles team of the week after defeating pairs from Hawaii and Nevada.
Burnel and Devald lead UTRGV with an impressive 8-2 doubles record. This is the third WAC award of the spring season and fourth recognition overall for the duo. UTRGV's men's tennis team has racked up seven WAC awards in the spring season, with Burnel winning three singles honors (Feb. 7, Feb. 22, March 10) and senior
Chris Lawrance winning singles player of the week on Jan. 31.
UTRGV's next match is April 1
st at 10 a.m. at No. 49 Baylor.
