SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team extended its Western Athletic Conference (WAC) winning streak to four matches with a 4-3 victory over the Seattle U (SU) Redhawks Friday at the Amy Yee Tennis Center. 
 
The Vaqueros (9-6, 4-1 WAC) won their fourth straight doubles point to get in the driver's seat. The reigning WAC doubles team of the week, junior Lea Karren and sophomore Barbara Martinez, cruised to their third consecutive conference win, taking a 6-2 victory in the No. 2 flight. After SU won in the first flight, UTRGV's No. 3 duo of senior Stefanie Wilske and sophomore Daniela Rosenberger went on a run, going from trailing 4-5 to winning 7-5 to secure the 1-0 lead. 
 
Sophomore Marjorie Souza cruised to claim her fourth conference win in a row with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 flight, increasing UTRGV's advantage to 2-0. The Redhawks (3-8, 1-3 WAC) tied the match at 2-2 with wins on the second and fifth courts by Liliya Dimova and Mireia Fehr. 
 
UTRGV secured the match victory with three-set wins by Wilske and Martinez. Wilske showed great fight to battle back from a 5-7 loss in the first set of her No. 6 match and win the next two 6-3, 6-1. Martinez dominated the first set of her No. 3 match 6-0, then dropped the second 4-6. She was locked in a back-and-forth battle in the third set against Lola Tavcar and captured a well-earned 6-4 win to extend the Vaqueros' streak. 
 
Karren competed well in the No. 1 match but was defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Elena Kraleva. 
 
UTRGV will play at Utah Tech at 10:30 a.m. (CT) Sunday at the Trailblazer Tennis Courts.
