MONTGOMERY – Fresh off their first win of the season, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is back in action at the Huntsville Toyota Walden Invitational, starting on Monday at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Course.
The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday with play starting with the first groups teeing off at 7:54 a.m.
Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Course plays 6,756 yards and is a par 72.
The Competition
There will be a 14-team field that will include UTRGV, Sam Houston, Rice, Stetson, Louisiana Monroe, North Alabama, Tarleton, New Orleans, Incarnate Word, Houston Christian, Central Michigan, Nicholls, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Midland with individuals from Texas Tech, Houston, Texas A&M, and Baylor.

Last Time Out
The Vaqueros recorded their first win of the season and their first since 2021 when they won the Big Texan at Riverhill Country Club. The win was also UTRGV Head Coach
Houston Moore's first-career win.
UTRGV won the event with a three-round score of 873 and winning by two strokes over Southeastern Louisiana. The. Vaqueros opened with a first round 296 and then used a second round 284 to climb into third place after the first day. UTRGV then posted a final round 293, which was the best round of the day to take the win.
Javier Neira Garcia finished in ninth place with a three-round score of 216 after posting rounds of 74, 69, and 73. Garcia birdied his 54
th hole to help secure the victory for the Vaqueros.
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 10
th with a three-round score of 217 after posting rounds of 75, 70, and 72.
Taj Sutherland finished tied for 16
th with a three-round score of 219 after carding rounds of 74, 73, and 72.
Henry Wang finished tied for 27
th with a three-round score of 222 with rounds of 73, 73, and 76.
Leonardo Novella and
Carlos Roldos, who was playing as an individual, finished tied for 33
rd with three-round scores of 224. Novella posted rounds of 75, 72, and 77 while Roldos posted rounds of 73, 76, and 75.
Last Year at the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational
The Vaqueros finished in 16
th place last year at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Course.
UTRGV posted a three-round score of 940 with rounds of 322, 314, and 304.
Leonardo Novella led UTRGV with a three-round score of 234 as he finished tied for 58
th with rounds of 80, 77, and 77.
Taj Sutherland finished tied for 70
th with a three-round score of 238 with rounds of 80, 82, and 76.
Sebastian Lundberg finished tied for 83
rd with a three-round score of 244 after posting rounds of 83, 84, and 77.
Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi finished tied for 86
th with a three-round score of 246 with rounds of 79, 80, and 87 and
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished in 94
th.
Florida Atlantic won the team title with a three-round score of 876 with rounds of 303, 284, and 289. Florida Atlantic's Alex Maguire won the individual title with a three-round score of 213 with rounds of 69, 70, and 74.
