HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's 4x100-meter relay team and men's 4x400-meter relay team set outdoor track & field program records Saturday to headline another strong outing for UTRGV at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight.
Junior
Aisha Gay, graduate student
Jada Hoffman, junior
Yaria Akers and freshman
Symoria Adkins made up the women's 4x100 relay and ran 46.18 to take third in the event and insert themselves into UTRGV history.
Freshmen
Derrius Henry, Jaqualand Fields and
Jamari Harts teamed with junior
Jermarrion Stewart to win the men's 4x100 in 3:11.41, the top time in program history. Those season-best performances and the 15 personal records hit by Vaqueros student-athletes showcased the great strides the program continues to make from week to week.
As has become the expectation, UTRGVs field student-athletes got the day started strong and the women's throwing crew was dynamic. Graduate student
Marlene Gutierrez claimed another top-three finish in the women's hammer throw, taking third with the second-best throw in program history of 61.71 meters. She was also third with a throw of 14.61 meters in the shot put.

The Vaqueros came out firing on all cylinders to get the evening session started with the women's relay record and continued to show their speed throughout the night. The men's 4x100-meter relay team of redshirt sophomore
Jaleel Scott, Stewart, Fields and Johnson won their event in 41.59, the 10
