MONTGOMERY –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf sits in ninth place after the first day of the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational on Monday at Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Course. 
 
The Vaqueros came out of the gates with momentum after last week's win and opened with a first round four-under 284 but followed with a second round 304 for a two-round total of 588. UTRGV is 10 shots out of the top-five in the standings. 
 
Freshman Henry Wang led the way for UTRGV through the first two rounds as he sits tied for 19^th with a two-round total of 143. Wang opened with a career-best four-under 68 but followed with a second round 75. 
 
Junior Javier Neira Garcia is tied for 31^st after posting a two-round total of 145 after posting an even par 72 in the first round and a one-over par 73 in the second. Sophomore Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque is tied for 41^st after posting a two-round total of 148 as he carded a first round three-under par 69 and following with a second round 79. 
 
Redshirt sophomore Taj Sutherland is tied for 59^th with a two-round total of 152 after rounds of 75 and 77 and junior Leonardo Novella is tied for 79^th with a two-round total of 157 with rounds of 78 and 79.  
 
Host Sam Houston holds the first day team lead with a two-round total of 565 with rounds of 274 and 291. Texas A&M's Phichaksn Maichon holds the individual lead after the first day with a two-round total of 138 after rounds of 68 and 70.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Tuesday for the final round with their first group starting at 8:45 a.m.
