SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's (UTRGV) men's qualifiers to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field West Preliminary Round competed Wednesday at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento.
Freshman
Jedidiah Udunna was 30
th in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.35 meters, the eighth-best jump in program history. Udunna finishes his first season at UTRGV with six of the top 10 long jumps in the outdoor record books, including a program record of 7.80 meters.
Freshman
Sam Johnson II finished 44
th in the first round of the men's 400-meter dash, running 47.70. After one year at UTRGV, Johnson owns four of the 10 best 400 dash times in outdoor program history, including a program record 46.25.
The NCAA West Preliminary continues Thursday as the women's events get underway. Graduate student
Marlene Gutierrez will do the hammer throw at 12 p.m., freshman
Rayja'nae Pettit will do long jump at 8 p.m. and junior
Aisha Gay will run in the first round of the 400-meter dash at 9:25 p.m.
