SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) Cardinals on Thursday at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.
The Cardinals (3-0) grabbed the early lead as Bailey Moyer scored in the 10
th minute as she snuck one past UTRGV goalie
Emilia Compian in the upper right corner.
Later in the first half, UIW got a goal coming out of a hydration break as Sinead Duffy got it by a leaping Compian outside the box to make it 2-0 Cardinals in the 31
st minute.
The Vaqueros (1-2) put the pressure on the Cardinals to close out the half but couldn't find the back of the net.
Defense was tight on both sides in the second half as both teams combined for just three shots.
Compian (1-2) finished the match with three of saves.
The Cardinals outshot the Vaqueros 8 to 3 and 5 to 2 on goal.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Thursday, August 31, when they #9 Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field. UTRGV's match with Houston Christian that was scheduled for Saturday has been canceled due to illness within the Huskies program.
