AUSTIN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team fell 5-0 to the No. 18 Texas Longhorns on Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field.
The Longhorns (4-1) jumped out to the early lead as they got three goals from Trinity Byars within the first 15 minutes of the match.
The Vaqueros (1-3) settled in the rest of the first half as sophomore goalkeeper
Emma Lööv, who was making her first start of the season, made a pair of saves.
Texas came back out in the second half and quickly added to their lead as Avery Clark scored in the 46
th minute making it 4-0.
Later in the 56
th minute, a penalty in the box gave the Longhorns a penalty kick as Lexi Missimo converted for the 5-0 lead.
The Vaqueros were efficient with their shots as 3-of-4 were on goal.
Lööv finished with five saves on the night while Longhorn's goalkeeper Mia Justus finished with three saves.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Sunday when they return home to host Concordia at 12 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. The Vaqueros will honor their graduating class on Senior Day with a ceremony before the start of the match.
