SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team defeated the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals 1-0 on Friday at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium for their first road win of the season.
UTRGV (6-4-4, 2-1-3 SLC) and UIW (5-6-2, 2-3 SLC) were engaged in a defensive battle throughout the first half as both teams combined for just two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, the Vaqueros came out of the locker room and put the pressure on the Cardinals forcing a couple of corners and put a shot on goal. The Vaqueros fended off the Cardinals later in the second half as they took their turn applying the pressure.

Lisa Elowsson in the box as she put it in the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
The Vaqueros' defense clamped down and didn't allow the Cardinals to take a shot on goal in the final 20 minutes of the match.
Freshman
Kamila Aguilar recorded a career-high six saves as she helped UTRGV earn their eighth shutout of the season, which ranks second most in a single season in program history.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Oct. 18 when they host Nicholls at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Attendance is free but fans will need a digital pass to gain entrance. Fans can sign up for the UTRGV Soccer Pass at
