RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team dropped a Southland Conference (SLC) match, 4-1, Sunday to the Stephen F. Austin (SFA) Ladyjacks at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
The deep offense of the 'Jacks (6-2-2, 3-1-0 SLC) showed its colors to open up a 3-0 advantage in the first half. SFA outshot UTRGV 10-2 in the opening frame and had five different players record points.
Jayme Bailey scored the first goal on a penalty kick in the 17
th minute, and 10 minutes later
Maddie Bowers doubled the lead with a score off an assist from

UTRGV (5-4-4, 1-1-3 SLC) continued to play physical defense as it battled from behind, blocking and deflecting SFA looks at a high rate. But that led to SFA notching six corners in the first half, and the 'Jacks extended the lead in the 35
thminute after an assist from
Brielle Buchanan found
Kamryn Jiles, who became the third different goal scorer.
UTRGV's freshman goalkeeper
Kamila Aguilar was active in the opening minutes of the second half and responded well as the SFA offense continued to apply pressure. In the 57
th minute, a redirected ball turned into a goal for
Lily Hargrove to put SFA up 4-0.
The Vaqueros got their first corner kick in the 61
st minute and earned four in the second half as they battled to the finish. Freshman midfielder
Rubi Ortiz and sophomore defender

th minute, Train made a great assist on a free kick that turned into a goal for freshman forward
Jordan Matthews. Train and junior forward
Olivia Trotter both put shots on goal. Aguilar finished with one save.
