HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team closed out the Rice Invitational by picking up three singles wins Sunday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center. 
 
Sophomore Madeleine Joffe battled from behind for a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Rice's Valetina Ponce Serrano in the 3-4 playoff of Flight 5. Freshman Mariia Bakhtina dominated her Flight 6 South match to the tune of a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Carina Holguin from LSU. Sophomore Rhea Makesar was leading her Flight 6 3-4 playoff match, 3-0, when UT Arlington's Maria Araoz-Gosn retired due to injury, securing Makesar the win. 
 
This tournament wraps up UTRGV's fall schedule.
