MONTGOMERY – A week after opening the spring season in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is back in action this week at the Betwater Intercollegiate starting on Monday at Bentwater Country Club.
The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes on Monday with the final 18 holes being played on Tuesday. Play will begin each day at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Bentwater Country Club plays 6,788 yards and is a par 71.
The Competition
There will be a 13-team field that will feature UTRGV, Sam Houston, Rice, UTSA, Western Kentucky, Southern Illinois, UT Arlington, Missouri State, Tarleton State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Commerce, Nicholls, and Midland Community College with individuals from Baylor, Houston, and TCU.

Last Time Out
The Vaqueros finished fifth in the spring season opening Los Vaqueros Intercollegiate at Palaya Paraíso Golf Club in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
UTRGV finished with a three-round score 905 after posting rounds of 313, 296, and 296. UTRGV finished ahead of UT Arlington, UAB, Abilene Christian, and Northern Colorado.
Javier Neira Garcia led the way for the Vaqueros as he finished tied for 225 with rounds of 78, 76, and 71. Freshman
Esteban Gonzalez tied for 18
th with a three-round score of 226 with rounds of 76, 73, and 77.
Junior
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 21
st with a three-round score of 227 after posting rounds of 80, 73, and 74. Sophomore
Henry Wang finished tied for 34
th with a three-round score of 233 after posting rounds of 85, 74, and 74. Redshirt junior
Taj Sutherland finished in 45
th with a three-round score of 242 with rounds of 79, 80, and 83.
Freshman
Eddie Lai, who played as an individual, finished in 40
th with a three-round score of 235 with rounds of 80, 77, and 78.
Last Time at Bentwater Country Club
UTRGV last played at Bentwater Country Club back on Oct. 11-13, 2021 when they competed at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.
The Vaqueros finished in 11
th with a three-round score of 904 after posting rounds of 292, 308, and 304.
Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 50
th with a three-round score of 228 after posting rounds of 71, 77, and 78.
Leonardo Novella and
Sebastian Lundberg tied for 55
th with three-round scores of 229. Novella carded rounds of 70, 89, and 70 while Lundberg posted rounds of 76, 74, and 79.
