LUBBOCK – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by the Texas Tech (TTU) Red Raiders to cap a Friday doubleheader at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Texas Tech (4-3) secured the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. UTRGV (3-8) switched up its doubles teams and looked competitive with the new combinations despite falling behind 1-0. The freshmen duo of
Ivo Isqueiro and
Santiago Serrano was battling in the No. 2 match, trailing 6-5 when the tight contest went unfinished.
The Red Raiders clinched the match victory with wins on the fourth, second and third singles courts.
Senior
Emilien Burnel got the Vaqueros on the board with a nice 6-2, 6-4 win over
Jonas Gundacker in the No. 1 singles match. TTU took the remaining two matches, though the young Vaqueros showed their fight until the end.
UTRGV's next match will be Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. at SMU.
