RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team will play its final two non-conference matches at home this weekend.
The Vaqueros (6-6) will host the North Dakota (UND) Fighting Hawks at 12 p.m. at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. UTRGV is 1-1 all-time against North Dakota (7-9, 1-1 Summit League) after picking up a 4-2 win in North Dakota back in 2010 and dropping a neutral site match, 4-0, in 2011.
UTRGV comes into this match after a good win over Morgan State last weekend. The Fighting Hawks will be playing their third match in a Texas road trip that saw them lose, 5-2, at Lamar and sweep at Prairie View A&M, 7-0.
On Sunday at 10 a.m., the Vaqueros and Lamar Cardinals (7-5) will face off for the 33
rd time. UTRGV trails in the all-time series, 10-22, and fell, 6-1, when these teams faced off in Beaumont in 2023. The last matchup in Edinburg saw the Vaqueros earn a 4-3 victory in 2022.
These final two non-conference matches will give the Vaqueros a chance to continue building their doubles chemistry and developing on the singles courts ahead of Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play.
