BEAUMONT – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw with the Lamar University Cardinals on Thursday at the LU Soccer Complex.
The draw helps the Vaqueros (4-3-3, 0-0-2 SLC) remain unbeaten in Southland Conference play. The Vaqueros have now recorded six shutouts on the season, which ties for the fifth most in a single season in program history.
Vaqueros' freshman goalkeeper
Heiddis Emma Sigurdardottir made four saves in the match to keep the Cardinals (2-5-3, 0-1-1 SLC) off the board.
The Vaqueros and the Cardinals each had opportunities in the first half as each team had a shot hit the post, but the defenses kept the match scoreless through the first half.
It was more of the same in the second half as both teams had good looks to get one in the net. The Vaqueros really put the pressure on the Cardinals in the final 10 minutes of the match forcing a pair of corners and taking four shots.
Cardinals' goalkeeper Maddie Rich made seven saves in the match.
UTRGV outshot Lamar 16 to 15 and 7 to 4 on goal.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Sept. 29 when they host McNeese at 12 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Attendance is free but fans will need a digital pass to gain entrance. Fans can sign up for the UTRGV Soccer Pass at
