HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team sits in sixth place after the first day of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Monday at Westwood Country Club. 
 
The Vaqueros finished the day with a two-round total of 578 as they are tied with Houston Christian. UTRGV opened with a first round three-under par 285 before posting a second round 293. 
 
UTRGV is ahead of Wichita State, Rice's second team, Samford, and UT Arlington. Sam Houston and Abilene Christian are tied for the team lead after the first day with a two-round total of 551. 
 
Senior Juan Luis De Bethencourt Duque led the Vaqueros on the first day with a two-round total of 142. Duque is tied for 24^th after opening with a three-under 69 before carding a second round one-over 73. 
 
Sophomore McAllen Memorial alum Esteban Gonzalez is tied for 40^th with a two-round total of 145. Gonzalez also opened with a first round three-under 69 before turning in a second round 76. Redshirt senior Taj Sutherland is tied for 47^th with a two-round total of 147 after carding rounds of 73 and 74. 
 
Juniors Arthit Kruaprayong and Luis Limon are tied for 57^th with a two-round total of 149. Kruaprayong posted rounds of 74 and 75 while Limon posted an opening round of 78 before posting a one-under 71 in the second round. Sophomore Eddie Lai, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 65^th with a two-round total of 151 after posting rounds of 72 and 79. 
 
Rice's Luka Boandl and LSU's Noah McWilliams hold a share of the individual lead with a two-round total of 133. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back on the course for the final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday with play starting at 8:30 a.m.
