RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that sophomore Madeleine Joffe, of the women's tennis team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
 
Joffe went 3-0 in singles this weekend at the Javelina Jam.
 
Joffe battled from behind in her matches against Angelo State's Elise Gillis and Prairie View A&M's Daniela Garcia, showing her fight to win after dropping the first set. She defeated Gillis 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10:3) in the quarterfinals and bested Garcia 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10:7) in the semis.
 
In a side match on Saturday, Joffe defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Jimenez Casado in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.
 
The next tournament for the Vaqueros will be the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Regional in Fort Worth from Oct. 10-14.
