RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's basketball team is set to host the Nicholls Colonels for the first time in 34 years when the teams battle Monday at 4 p.m. at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
The game was originally scheduled for Jan. 23, but inclement weather in Louisiana affected team travel and caused the Southland Conference (SLC) to move all Thursday women's games to Monday. The Vaqueros (10-10, 5-4 SLC) picked up their only win in history over Nicholls (12-6, 5-4 SLC) the last time these teams played in Edinburg on Jan. 14, 1991. UTRGV and the Colonels are two of four teams tied at 5-4 in conference play heading into Monday's slate of games.
The women's game will kick off a single-admission Monday Madness doubleheader with the men's basketball team, which hosts Nicholls at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at
GoUTRGV.com/Tickets. Current UTRGV students get into the game free with their student ID and can get free food in between games. Fans unable to attend the game can watch domestically via
ESPN+ or internationally via
Southland International.
