RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's basketball team is ready for Round Two of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, which will be played Saturday at 2 p.m. at the UTRGV Fieldhouse against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.
The Vaqueros (10-12, 5-6 Southland Conference) defeated the Islanders (11-10, 3-7 SLC) when these teams met three weeks ago, 61-53, in Corpus. UTRGV is searching for its first home win against the Islanders since 2022 and first back-to-back victories in the Showdown since capturing consecutive wins Dec. 2021 and Nov. 2022.
The women's game will kick off a South Texas Showdown doubleheader with the men's basketball team, which hosts Corpus at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at
GoUTRGV.com/Tickets. Current UTRGV students get into the game free with their student ID. Fans unable to attend the game can watch domestically via
ESPN+ or internationally via
Southland International.
