OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's soccer battled after falling behind early to the University of Omaha Mavericks but fell 5-1 on Tuesday at Caniglia Field.
The Vaqueros (1-7-1) found themselves trailing the Mavericks (3-6-3) after just four minutes into the match as Italo Jenkins got the scoring started. Three minutes later, Theo Klein converted on a penalty kick giving the Mavericks the 2-0 advantage.
In the 12
th minute, Klein headed in another goal as he got the lob from Mikey Stukenholtz making it 3-0 and then in the 32
nd minute, Johan Magana capped the scoring with a making it 4-0.
The Vaqueros didn't roll over in the second half as they put the pressure on the Mavericks over the final 45 minutes. UTRGV was efficient with their shots in the second half as all three of their shots were on goal.
Senior
Sota Matsuo got the Vaqueros on the board in the 52
nd minute after stealing a pass in front of the goal and putting it in the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
The Mavericks added their final goal in the 61
st minute on Jenkins' second goal of the match.
UTRGV was outshot 14 to 8 and 10 to 6 on goal. Senior

Yoav Paltinmade three saves in the second half.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Oct. 28 when they visit Stetson at 6 p.m. at the Athletic Training Center.
