LAKE CHARLES, La. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team saw their two-match win streak snapped after a 1-0 loss to the McNeese Cowgirls on Thursday at Cowgirl Field.
The Vaqueros (5-8-1, 2-4 SLC) fell behind early as the Cowgirls (3-8-3, 2-2-1 SLC) got an early goal from Florencia Saavedra in the sixth minute.
The Vaqueros had opportunities in the first half, but McNeese goalie Celeste Marijnissen made three saves in the half to uphold their lead.
UTRGV took seven of their 12 shots in the second half but only one was on goal as the McNeese defense stymied the Vaqueros for the clean sheet.

Olivia Smith led the Vaqueros with five shots in the match while graduate student
Abbie Baliey and sophomore
Rubi Ortiz added two shots each.
Junior
Emilia Compian made three saves.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Oct. 16 when they visit Nicholls at 7 p.m. at Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
