DALLAS & SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team has concluded their fall season picking up two wins at the Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge, hosted by SMU, and the UIW Invitational, hosted by Incarnate Word (UIW) on Sunday.
 
Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge
 
In a battle of former conference rivals, graduate student Sam Whitehead and sophomore Loic Young Kriegel downed UT Arlington's (UTA) Saul Berdullas and Finbar McGarvey 6-4 to earn their first doubles win of the weekend.
 
In singles, junior Santiago Serrano picked up a hard-fought win against SMU's Meethre Barot, downing him in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). Meanwhile, Young battled against SMU's Matthew Faracci winning the first 6-3 before ultimately dropping the last two sets 6-2, 6-2.
 
Isqueiro earned a singles win after UTA's Finbar McGarvey retired down 2-1 in the first set of their match.
 
UIW Invitational
 
Meanwhile in San Antonio, freshman Luke Bishop continued his winning ways, taking the crown in Compass 3 after dominating Our Lady of the Lake's (OLL) Louis Bocquet 6-1, 6-3.
 
Junior Will Roberts earned second in Compass 2, after battling with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's (TAMUCC) Filip Vacula in a 6-3, 7-5 dogfight.
 
Competing in an extra match, sophomore Michael Chan picked up his second win of the weekend, defeating Jacob Gailey from Our Lady of the Lake in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
