LUBBOCK – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team battled winning the doubles point and one singles point before falling 5-2, in a non-conference match, to the New Mexico State (NMSU) Aggies at the McLeod Tennis Center.
The Aggies (4-6) took the second doubles flight 6-3 before the Vaqueros (0-6) stormed back to clinch the point thanks to a 6-3 finish from the No. 3 duo of sophomore

Eduardo Menezes and a wire-to-wire 6-4 win at No. 1 by sophomore

In singles, Serrano found himself in a battle on court six after cruising to a 6-2 win in the first set and dropping the second set 6-4. The battle from the second set ensued into the third set as the pair were knotted at 3-3. Serrano dug deep to win three of the final four games, claiming a 6-4 victory in the deciding set.
Prior to Serrano's match, the Aggies captured a strong 3-1 advantage with straight-set wins on the second, third, and fourth courts. However, the Vaqueros continued to fight going toe-to-toe on the other two courts, all going to third sets.
At No.1, Isqueiro jumped out to a quick lead in the first set before NMSU's
Itay Feigin bounced back to take the set 6-4. Isqueiro rallied in the second set, showing off his powerful forehand, to win 6-4 before dropping the final set 6-1 as NMSU clinched the match.
In the fifth flight, sophomore
Paolo Bonaguro dropped the first set 6-0 before showcasing his ability and mental toughness in a back-and-forth 7-6 (7:4) win in the second to push the match to a deciding third set. Bonaguro picked up a quick break in the third jumping out to an early 2-0 lead before falling 6-3 in the deciding set.
UTRGV is scheduled to play Lubbock Christian at 4 p.m. today at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock.
