LAREDO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team sits in 11
th place after day one of the Border Olympics Monday at Laredo Country Club.
UTRGV finished the day with a two-round total of 593 after posting a 296 in the first round and a 297 in the second. The Vaqueros are two shots ahead of 12
th place Lamar and two strokes behind Troy for 10
th place.
Sophomore
Esteban Gonzalez led the Vaqueros with a two-round total of 145 after carding a one-under par 70 in the first round and 75 in the second. Junior
Arthit Kruaprayong is tied for 19
th and one stroke back of Gonzalez after shooting a two-round total of 146 and posting rounds of 74 and 72.
Junior
Luis Limón is tied for 56
th after shooting a two-round total of 152 and posting rounds of 76. Sophomore
Eddie Lai is currently tied for 66
th after shooting an 80 in the first round and a 74 in the second for a two-round total of 154.
Senior
Taj Sutherland finished tied for 75
th after recording a two-round total of 157 after shooting a 76 in the first and 81 in the second.
Louisiana maintains the lead after day one with a two-round score of 572.
The Vaqueros will wrap up the Islander Open on Tuesday with the final round starting at 8:30 a.m.
