SAN MARCOS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team is ready to brave the elements during a Sunday match at Texas State. 
 
The Vaqueros (2-2, 0-0 Southland Conference) will play the Bobcats (6-2, 0-0 Sun Belt Conference) at 12 p.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. UTRGV is 4-26 all-time against Texas State and lost last year's match between these teams, 4-3, in an incredibly competitive match in Edinburg. 
 
The last time the Vaqueros played in San Marcos, they returned home with a solid 5-2 win, snapping a nine-match losing streak to the Bobcats. They have claimed the doubles point in back-to-back matches against the Bobcats and will look to continue setting the tone early in this next matchup with the top duo of sophomore Rhea Makesar and freshman Mariia Bakhtina leading the way. 
 
Makesar/Bakhtina boast a 4-0 record at No. 1 doubles. Makesar is also performing well in singles in her debut season at UTRGV, holding a 3-1 record this spring. On Tuesday, Makesar earned UTRGV's first SLC Women's Tennis Player of the Week award. 
 
UTRGV had to shift this week's practices indoors, but the student-athletes still drilled hard and focused on footwork to prepare for the marquee matchup.
