PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team captured its third consecutive win Monday with a 5-2 victory over the Prairie View A&M (PVAMU) Panthers at the PVAMU Tennis Courts.
UTRGV (5-13, 0-0 Southland Conference) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. The Panthers (1-17, 1-2 SWAC) took the early lead in the doubles session with a win in the first flight, but the Vaqueros came rallying back. Sophomores

Will Roberts outdueled their opponents in the No. 2 match to earn a 7-5 win. On Court 3, freshman Brownsville St. Joseph alum

Showtime Leh secured the point with a 6-4 victory in their first match together.
The Vaqueros got swift victories from Gamez and Roberts on the sixth and third courts to extend the lead to 3-0. Gamez earned his second win of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6. Roberts followed shortly after with a 6-4, 6-1 win in the third flight. Both bouts were concluded in under an hour.
Bonaguro clinched the UTRGV victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the fourth flight. Freshman
Isaac Smyth picked up a sound 6-4, 6-3 win in the fifth flight to increase the advantage to 5-0.
PVAMU got on the board with three-set wins in the first and second flights.
Up next for the Vaqueros is the Southland Conference opener Saturday at 3 p.m. at New Orleans.
