RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday that UTRGV men's golf head coach
Houston Moore is being promoted to director of golf, overseeing both men's and women's golf programs.
Moore has experience in leading both men's and women's programs after doing so at Ranger College from 2017-19. Moore helped the women's team to some of their best performances as they recorded the program's first two wins, their first individual win, and their highest Golfstat ranking at No. 4.
Moore also helped the men's team to their second win in program history while guiding one of his golfers to the No. 1 ranking in the country while leading the team to its best regional finish in school history and a sixth place finish at the NJCAA National Championships.
Moore recently wrapped up his third season at the helm of the men's golf program, leading the team to a third place finish at the Southland Conference Championships while also adding a win at the 2025 South Texas Match Play Event.
Last season, Moore guided the program to its best finish at the Western Athletic Conference Championships, coming in second place finishing just one shot from first place. Moore also saw the program win The Big Texas in back-to-back seasons.
"Coach Moore has done a terrific job leading our men's program the last three seasons," UTRGV Vice President and Director of Athletics
Chasse Conque said. "Houston is a builder, and he has proven that throughout his career in successfully leading both men's and women's programs. Not only has he done a great job building our men's program at UTRGV, he has quickly developed meaningful relationships in the community that has helped advance our programs. I am confident both the men's and women's programs will benefit from our new structure, and I am excited to see the success our golf programs will have under Houston's vision and leadership."
Over the past two years, Moore has helped raise more than $85,000 through the D. Wilson Golf Classic and has helped strengthen the program's relationships within the Rio Grande Valley golf community.
"I am honored to take on the role of director of golf," Moore said. "This new position gives me the opportunity to work with both the men's and women's teams and I am eager to build an environment of accountability and competitiveness. Our staff and teams will push each other to excel, embrace challenges, and elevate our programs to new heights on and off the course. I am excited about Coach Kirk's new role, and I have no doubt he is the perfect fit. I look forward to finding the right fit for the women's golf associate head coach to help take the program to the next level. I want to thank Chasse and Deputy Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator
Molly Castner for this opportunity. V's up!"
As director of golf, Moore will oversee an associate head men's golf coach and an associate head women's golf coach.
Joseph Kirk is being promoted to the associate head men's golf coach after completing his first season as an assistant coach for the men's and women's programs, helping guide
Natalia Rodriguez to the All-Southland Conference First Team and was instrumental in the men's third place finish at the Southland Conference Championships.
A national search for the associate head women's golf coach is underway.
In addition to his time at Ranger College, Moore spent the 2021-22 season as the assistant coach at the University of Houston, helping the Cougars win at the Border Olympics to go along with four top-five finishes, including a third place finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships.
Moore helped the Cougars to their second-straight NCAA Regional appearance while coaching five student-athletes to All-Conference honors.
Prior to his time at Houston, Moore spent two seasons (2019-21) at Cameron University, where he led the Aggies to three top-five finishes, including a third place finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships. Moore also saw his team record two top-five and six top-10 individual finishes.
