BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros got off to a good start at the NCAA West First Round hosted by Texas A&M at E.B. Cushing Stadium as junior Corin Burns advanced to the men's 200-meter dash quarterfinals Wednesday on Day 1 of the meet. 
 
Burns ran 20.87, the No. 4 time in program history, in Heat 3 of 6 in the first round of the 200 dash. He finished 22^nd and time-qualified as a top 24 finisher to run in the quarterfinals, set for 7:50 p.m. Friday. 
 
Freshman Richard Young was 40^th in the 200-meter dash in 21.27. 
 
Sophomore Keamonie Archie finished 43^rd with a mark of 5.46 meters. He fouled on his first two attempts before finding the board on the third, but his mark fell short of moving on. 
 
The women will get underway Thursday as junior Hannah Hilding competes in hammer throw, senior Efe Latham does shot put and junior Nayla Harris takes on the first round of the 100-meter dash.
