PRAIRIE VIEW – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season by defeating the Prairie View A&M Panthers 3-0 on Thursday at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.
The Vaqueros (1-2) dominated the first half against Panthers (0-2) starting from the opening whistle. In the fifth minute, the Vaqueros got their first goal of the season. Off a corner kick from sophomore

Lisa Elowssontapped it with her heel connecting with graduate student
Savannah Frisby who put it in the corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Vaqueros held the Panthers without a shot in the first half while controlling much of the possession.
The second half was more of the same as the Vaqueros controlled the possession yet again. The Vaqueros took advantage of their corner kicks as junior
Yiselle Bernal delivered a perfect cross where freshman
Sienna Church headed it into the net to extend their lead to 2-0 in the 58
th minute.
Sophomore
Lisa Elowsson extended the Vaqueros lead in the 86
th minute as she took a pass from junior
Libby Poleand scored her first goal of the season making it 3-0.
The Vaqueros didn't give up their first shot until the 73
rd minute. The Panthers had one good look, but junior goalkeeper
Emilia Compian came up with the save to keep the clean sheet.
The Vaqueros outshot the Panthers 10-2 in the match with four shots on goal.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Aug. 28 when they host Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. Attendance is free but fans will need a digital pass to gain entrance. Fans can sign up for the UTRGV Soccer Pass at
