Women's Basketball to Host Texas During 2025-26 Season

Vaqueros Hosting Two Power Four Opponents as Houston Visits UTRGV Fieldhouse

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Wednesday that the Vaqueros women's basketball team will host Texas, a 2025 Final Four team, on Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Bert Ogden Arena as the full 2025-26 schedule was released.

UTRGV hosted Texas in 2023 at Bert Ogden Arena and drew a program-record 6,591 fans, which is the largest crowd to watch a women's basketball game in the Rio Grande Valley. This season's game will be the 13th between the Vaqueros and Longhorns and third played in the Valley.

Fans can guarantee tickets to the Texas game by purchasing women's basketball season tickets at GoUTRGV.com/SeasonTickets or by contacting the UTRGV Tickets team over the phone at (956) 665-8849 or via email at tickets@utrgv.edu. Single game tickets will go on sale at a later date.

The Vaqueros will host the Big 12's Houston on Nov. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the UTRGV Fieldhouse. UTRGV earned its first win over a Power Four opponent in 21 years when the Vaqueros traveled to Houston and beat the Cougars to open the 2024-25 season.

"We are so excited for this opportunity to #RallyTheValley as the Texas Longhorns come to the Valley and Bert Ogden Arena in December," UTRGV women's basketball head coach Lane Lord said. "Texas will be one of the top ranked teams in the nation to start the season. This will be a great opportunity for fans to see our squad compete against one of the best teams in the country. We're also excited to bring Houston down to the UTRGV Fieldhouse for a rematch after beating them at their place last season in a tight game. We have a fun team to watch and 15 great home games. It will be another competitive year in the Southland Conference and we want the Fieldhouse rocking."

UTRGV opens the 2025-26 season with a pair of home contests against St. Mary's and Arlington Baptist before hitting the road to face Abilene Christian and Texas State. The Vaqueros will return to the UTRGV Fieldhouse for the Houston contest and then go on the road to face a second consecutive Big 12 opponent playing at TCU.

The Vaqueros begin their Southland Conference season Dec. 2 at Lamar. After hosting Texas on Dec. 10, UTRGV will hit the road for three games, including a pair of contests at Pepperdine in Malibu, California against North Dakota State and South Dakota to conclude the non-conference slate.

UTRGV wraps up the conference season with three consecutive home games before the SLC tournament which runs from March 9-12. The women's basketball selection show is scheduled for March 15 and the NCAA Tournament kicks off on March 18-19.
