Men's Golf Moves Up Two Spots to Finish in Sixth at Bayou City Collegiate Classic

HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team climbed two spots to finish in sixth place at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Tuesday at Westwood Golf Club.

The Vaqueros posted a final round 290 for a three-round score of 880 finishing just three shots out of the top-five. UTRGV finished ahead of Louisiana Monroe, UT Arlington, Utah Valley, Valparaiso, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M.

Freshman Brock Porter and juniors Esteban Gonzalez and Rodolphe Cicala each tied for 26^th with a three-round score of 220. Porter and Gonzalez each posted a final round two-under par 70 while Cicala carded a final round 78.

Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro finished tied for 41^st with a three-round score of 223 after posting a final round 74. Senior Luis Límon finished tied for 62^nd with a three-round score of 229 after turning in a final round one-over par 73. Senior Arthit Kruaprayong finished tied for 75^th with a three-round score of 234 after a final round 76.

Rice won the team title with a three-round score of 839 after a final round 279. Houston's Grant Doggett won the individual title with a three-round score of 201.

The Vaqueros will be back in action from Oct. 5-7 when they compete at the Trinity Forrest Invitational, hosted by SMU at Trinity Forrest Golf Club.
