RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that redshirt senior Yiselle Bernal, of the women's soccer team, is the UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
 
Bernal shined in UTRGV's home stretch this weekend scoring two goals on Sunday and assisting with two goals on Thursday.

Bernal started Thursday's matchup against Texas A&M-San Antonio with a corner kick assist to senior Libbie Mayfield. She also added an assist on the final goal of the first half. The Vaqueros went on to defeat the Panthers 10-0.
 
In Sunday's match, Bernal scored two goals in the second half of UTRGV's 6-0 win over Texas Lutheran. In her first goal, she collected her own rebound, raced past a defender and pushed the ball into the back right corner of the net. Bernal's second goal came with about 10 minutes remaining.
 
On the season, Bernal leads the team in assists (3), second on the team in points (7), and tied for third in goals (2).
 
Up next, UTRGV plays its next two matches on the road starting Thursday at 7 p.m. at Houston on ESPN+ and will finish their trip at Texas Southern on Sunday at 1 p.m.
