RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that senior
Nayla Harris, of the track & field team, is the UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Harris picked up right where she left off after a breakout junior season for UTRGV track & field program, opening her indoor season by breaking her own program record and winning the women's 60-meter dash Saturday at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational at Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Harris ran a personal best 7.18 in the 60 final, which stands as the No. 2 time in the nation at the time of publication. At the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships, 7.18 would have been fast enough to finish sixth.
Harris advanced as the top qualifier out of semifinals, where she ran 7.23 – temporarily the program record until her huge finals race.
In addition to her record-breaking performance in the 60, Harris placed 15
th in the long jump with a mark of 5.10 meters.
