STILLWATER, Okla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 at Oklahoma State (OSU) Saturday at Greenwood Tennis Center.
Junior
Will Roberts and graduate student
Sam Whitehead continued their winning ways on court one, defeating the duo of
Ian Bracks and
Thomas Gadecki, 6-3. With wins on court two and three, the Cowboys stole the doubles point.
The Cowboys sealed the match and extended their lead to 5-0 with straight-sets wins on courts two, three, five, and six. Despite the deficit, the Vaqueros showed fight on the other courts.
On court three, junior
Santiago Serrano dropped the first set 6-2 before battling back to knot the match with a 6-3 win in the second. In the third and final set, Serrano battled to a 5-3 lead but eventually fell 7-5.
On court one, Whitehead fell 6-2 in the first set before bouncing back with a big 6-4 win in the second which saw him win the final two games of the set to force the deciding third. Whitehead battled in the third but lost 6-3.
UTRGV will turnaround for an early match tomorrow as they battle Saint Louis at 10 a.m. at Greenwood Tennis Center. Fans can watch live using OSU's
